Cricket and Community: A Match Made at N/a’an ku sê

They say, “Cricket is a love affair with the soul.” At N/a’an ku sê, we believe in experiences that uplift, inspire and foster connection, where team spirit and mindful engagement elevate the everyday. Sporting activities are powerful tools for building confidence, encouraging healthy competition, and teaching the younger generation the value of unity and collaboration.

Cricket, in particular, provides the perfect platform to nurture these qualities while celebrating Namibia’s rich cultural heritage. At N/a’an ku sê, it has become a bridge between an ageless sport and the ancient culture of the indigenous San people.

Thanks to the partnership between the Windhoek High School Old Boys’ Club and the generosity of Afri-Track Group ATG, cricket is being shared with communities that might not otherwise have access to the sport. ATG, committed to sustainable community development, chose the Old Boys’ Club as their official partner to promote cricket across Namibia, including within San communities.

The development team, also known as the third cricket team, now includes players from the schools of the N/a’an ku sê Foundation. Predominantly San learners of all ages are invited to join, allowing their talents to be discovered, their skills nurtured, and their confidence to grow. Leadership potential is identified along the way, with outstanding young players encouraged to progress to the second team and even take on captaincy roles.

In this way, two worlds come together beautifully, the strategic, disciplined world of cricket and the enduring, rich traditions of Namibia’s San people. The result is more than a game; it is a celebration of culture, community and the transformative power of sport.
