Nappies for Newborns: Caring for New Beginnings in Epukiro

There are few things as moving as witnessing the first steps of a child’s life journey, and at the N/a’an ku sê Lifeline Clinic we are honoured to play a small but meaningful role in those early days. Recently, our team visited the Epukiro community to distribute diapers to mothers with newborns, bringing comfort, relief and a sense of shared celebration to families welcoming their youngest members.

These moments reflect far more than a simple handover of supplies. They represent our commitment to ensuring that San babies receive the strongest possible start in life. Every newborn who comes through our doors is monitored carefully during nutritional support sessions. Growth, development and overall wellbeing are tracked with thoughtful attention. Mothers and infants are welcomed with hearty meals prepared with care, giving them both nourishment and reassurance at a time when they need it most.

For many families in the community, such support helps bridge long standing gaps in access to early healthcare and nutrition. The Lifeline Clinic aims to offer not only medical assistance but also a space of safety, dignity and encouragement. By guiding mothers through the first months of their baby’s life, we hope to foster confidence, stability and the knowledge that they are not alone on this journey.

As we celebrate the mothers and babies of Namibia, we celebrate resilience, tenderness and the promise of brighter futures. Every child carried into the clinic represents hope, and it is a privilege to walk alongside these families as they begin their beautiful new chapters.
