A quivering golden bundle, huge eyes blinking shyly and black tufted ears alert to every sound, tragically alone with his mum having been killed, snuck his way into our N/a’an ku sê hearts in the blink of a cat’s eye in July 2015. This tiny caracal kitten, a large bite on his hind flank marring the perfection of his golden fur, needed desperate attention and care.

And cosmic forces were certainly at play with the arrival of our little one. On the eve before his arrival two astronomical objects were destined to meet – the planets Venus and Jupiter coming so close together they formed a dramatic ‘double star’ in the night of 30 June 2015. We just couldn’t resist calling our boy ‘Jupiter’.

Jupiter improved by leaps and bounds… quite literally… bouncing and jumping for his favourite plaything… a feather on a stick. His voracious appetite saw this little kitten far too quickly develop into a sleek and agile caracal, rippling with the muscles inherent to these exquisite cats.

But the bite on his hind flank did cause repercussions detrimental to our Jupiter. Surgical intervention proved necessary, with pins being inserted. This, together with his habituation to humans, means that Jupiter will not be able to embrace freedom. Instead, he shares his large camp on the N/a’an ku sê Reserve with fellow caracal, Misty, enjoying a life mimicking that of his wild counterparts as closely as possible.

Let Jupiter add his cosmic touch to your life. For only USD 150.00 per year our boy can become a part of your family. All funds received aid the animals of the N/a’an ku sê Foundation Wildlife Sanctuary.
