Time to S…MILE!

Group of people in front of a PreCare mobile unit

Last year, on 10 December, the Naankuse Foundation had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from S Mile Solutions and the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST.

The highlight of the day was the handover of the brand-new PreCare mobile care unit. The name may sound technical, but the concept is wonderfully simple: bringing high-quality medical care directly to remote areas; all from a fully equipped 4x4 vehicle.

This remarkable PreCare unit is entirely self-sufficient. It comes with solar power and battery storage, its own water treatment system, onboard disinfectant production, cooling systems, and space for a variety of medical diagnostic devices. It even includes communication tools for telemedicine. Best of all, it does not rely on the power grid, a water supply, or even proper roads.

In short, it is a compact but mighty treatment powerhouse, ready to tackle tough terrain, perfectly suited for the outreach work of the Naankuse Lifeline Clinic.

Over the following two months, the Naankuse Foundation put this mobile medical marvel to the test. We are confident that it will make a significant difference in delivering healthcare to some of the most remote communities in Namibia’s Omaheke Region.
