Volunteers with Heart: A New Chapter for Harnas’ Baboons

Volunteers at Harnas

Recently, volunteers helped at Harnas Wildlife Sanctuary, bringing energy, dedication, and enthusiasm to a very special cause: a fundraiser in support of the baboons of Harnas, our clever and much-loved residents.

Some of these baboons currently live in smaller camps due to physical disabilities or other circumstances that make joining a main troop difficult. But thanks to the generosity of our volunteers and the overwhelming support from our community, that is about to change.

Together, we have raised the funds to completely revamp a 13.5-hectare camp right here on the Harnas Reserve. The new space has been carefully designed to provide comfort, enrichment, and everything these baboons need to thrive. Most importantly, it will give them the opportunity to enjoy freedom and social interaction together, as they would in the wild.

Every volunteer, every donation, and every act of support has played a part in making this vision a reality. The baboons’ new home promises to be a place of safety, stimulation, and joy; a space where they can explore, play, and live as they are meant to.

From all of us at Harnas—and from the baboons themselves—thank you for helping make this possible. Your commitment, time, and generosity are helping to create a brighter future for some of the sanctuary’s most charismatic residents.
