An Inspiring Visit from the Vice President of Namibia

Vice president of Namibia visiting Naankuse Foundation

We were honoured to recently welcome the Vice President of Namibia, Lucia Witbooi, to the Naankuse Foundation!

A seasoned public servant and former educator, Lucia Witbooi brings a wealth of experience to her role. She first joined Namibia’s National Assembly in 2009 and has long been recognised for her dedication to grassroots education and community development.

Her academic journey, including studies at the University of Port Elizabeth and the University of Namibia, laid the foundation for her early career in teaching before she transitioned fully into politics.

During her visit, we had the privilege of showcasing the Naankuse Foundation’s humanitarian efforts, including Naankuse Primary School and the work we do with San communities. It was a day filled with inspiration and reflection.

Lucia captured the essence of the nation’s journey in her own words: “A return to dignity, pride and recognition. ‘Marginalised’ becomes ‘Indigenous’. From marginalised to recognised. From words to worth. Today, Namibia reclaimed her truth.”

It was a moment that reminded us of the power of education, community and the importance of recognising the value of every Namibian voice.
